‘W’ trek: Imaginatively named after the shape of a trail, which we covered over 5 days and 4 nights, between Paine Grande and Mirador los Torres, in the Torres del Paine National Park.
Along the way we saw some of the most stunning lakes, mountains, glaciers and wildlife of the trip so far. Highlights had to be: Hiking to the Mirador Britannico, and beyond, on a very bright sunny morning; seeing a ‘huemul’, an endangered and elusive Andean deer; and after 3 attempts, seeing the 3 towers glowing at sunrise. The only lowlight was the very average camping cuisine we cheffed up on our tiny fold-up stove. We learnt the hot way that ‘aji’ is Spanish for ‘very spicy chili’, as we poured an entire packet of sauce over our pasta for dinner one evening. Hot hot hot.
’W’ is also for Will you marry me?: A very romantic proposal on top of a very stormy and windy mountain with over 100 kmph winds and horizontal hail to boot. (See second photo)
The perfect start to our adventures in Chile.
