After stuffing our faces for nearly a week in Lima, it was about time we went back into the Andes and tried to rein in our rapidly expanding waistlines.
We headed to a region of the Andes about 5 hours drive north east of Lima known as the ‘Cordillera Blanca’ or ‘White Range’ after it’s numerous snow capped peaks. In this area, there are 33 peaks over 5,500 meters. Perfect for a couple of brisk hikes then.
We opted to do a couple of day hikes, setting off from the town of Huaraz. The first to the high altitude Lake Cherup and the second to Lake 69. The scenery in this part of the world is stunning and, with the area still very much off the radar of many gringos, wonderfully peaceful.
We could have happily stayed longer, but the next adventure beckoned…
